Tangier Island Mission Trip 2020
Join us Thursday, April 23 - Sunday, April 26, 2020 for a mission trip to Tangier Island. Tangier Island, also known as the “Sinking Island,” is found in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. The island is home to about 500 locals, who have a strong lineage and connection to the island. The economy is dependent on a declining fishing industry. Which leaves many residents without the resources and income to maintain their homes. In our time on the island, we will be partnering with Swain Memorial United Methodist Church, to help restore some of the homes in the community. There will be many small construction projects (varying from repairing a small roof to mending and painting fences) and a small tree planting project to aid erosion on the island. Our team will be staying at the church and living the island life alongside the locals! 20 team members of all skill are needed - sign up today!
Tongues of Fire BBQ Ministry
The Tongues of Fire BBQ Ministry team's mission is to "Spread the Gospel, one bite at a time." This group of 30+ holds 5 sales yearly. The proceeds from the BBQ sales go toward supporting the missions and outreach efforts of DUMC.
Social needs and outreach
Davidsonville's Social Needs and Outreach Committee is comprised of volunteers who seek to fill the needs of our neighborhood. Throughout the year the committee actively looks for ways we can reach community needs by providing lunches to children, putting together Thanksgiving & Christmas packages, coordinating Operation Christmas Child, hosting Blood Drives through the Red Cross, support families financially by contributing to monthly bills & rent and numerous other ministries.
Partners in Care
DUMC is passionate about supporting people in our local neighborhoods, especially in South County. We do that best by working with Partners in Care.
"Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me." -Matthew 25: 34-36
